I stopped playing Magic around the time of Urza's Legacy - which I think was about ten or eleven years ago. One thing is for sure; it's a really cleverly designed game with more-or-less limitless strategies for deck customization and card duelling. The problem is though, that it's essentially a money sink. Funnily enough, it also seemed to me to suffer from the problem of deminishing returns. The more my friends and I practiced and compiled our play decks the more predictable the game became and the less fun we had. It was actually most enjoyable to play with newly opened decks with all random cards (or at least that's how I found it).

I used to play this A LOT. Can I suggest heroin instead? It's cheaper and has a less debilitating effect on your career and social life. Plus the lowlife street skills you'll develop will come in handy when society collapses and the zombies take over.

Whilst being reminded about the joys of Magic by this article and their obvious attempts to draw new players back into the game, I found this interesting article on the escapist about Dominion, which appears to have been suckering Magic players since last year...

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/issues/issue_213/6338-Dominion-Over-All

It certainly has got me interested in giving it a go. Anyone else tried it?

On the topic of cards that are fun to play, have you taken a look at the old Unglued and Unhinged series yet, Rab? They make for fine daft games.

This takes me back to playing on the school bus in 1996 - I remember getting hold of the royal assassin card from the first generation which allowed you to tap it to kill another creature, with a really low summoning cost. Awesome stuff. I must try and avoid getting back into playing as it is far too addictive. Also I've seen what the kids at the local gaming shop look like who spend all weekend admiring the rare cards in the shop's catalogue!
