Back In The Game!

So where have I been?

For the past few months, I’ve been busy working on a BBC TV show. It’s a comedy sketch show called ‘Burnistoun’ and it’s been a huge undertaking. A lot of writing, and six weeks of long filming days. There’s been no time for playing games, and certainly no time to operate a one-man-website.

Here's me in costume for Burnistoun. YUM!

Here's me in costume for Burnistoun. YUM!

But the work is done. Last night I even got the opportunity to have a 7 hour long pen and paper RPG session. I have a load of boardgames that lie unplayed, untested. I got some great new stuff for Christmas. It’s on. It’s on. I’m back in the game.

I also have games that people have sent me to test. I’m going to get to these too, a huge backlog to catch up with, a huge amount of content for you people to read and watch. I don’t know where to start, there’s so much to play and do. It’s a wonderful problem to have.

It’s been horrible, not having the time to play games. It’s something that you need to make time for, because nothing quite beats getting round a table and losing yourself for a few hours. There’s nothing else that really matches that kind of group fun. Although I imagine swinging might be quite a good laugh, if you’re a bit sick in the head. Dogging too, if you’re even more sick. I’ll stick to the board games, thanks.

So what can you expect from here on in?

More episodes of the show, more reviews, news, features. I’ll hopefully have some guests contributing to the site too, so look out for that.

How long has it been since you played?

Get back in the game!

    Awesome, awesome and awesome!

I can’t wait to see what’s coming up, glad to see you back in the game!

A mate and I are going to get Memoir 44 because of you. We want to make little voices for our guys, too.

I reckon there should be a post about Christmas gaming experiences due!

I had a classic on Christmas day with WAR on Terror – Mum wearing the EVIL balaclava passing secret notes to my wife. I got annoyed and played my espionage card to see what the notes were all about. It went something like this…

WIFE: Is there any trifle left?
    MUM: Yes
    WIFE: Can I have some?
MUM: Not until you nuke IRAN.

    The joy of family gaming!

    Videos. Videos! Fucking videos!..
It may be true that pretty much nobody writes decent board game reviews on a regular basis, video reviews are in even more pathetic shape on the net: listening to guys retelling you rules for 10 fucking minutes and then spending 30 seconds actually reviewing something… anything… You know… So focus on videos (the show). If anything, they make this website stand out miles away. And that’s what it’s all about, eh?
As for news – I wouldn’t bother. You focus on very mainstream games, so you don’t tell people anything they wouldn’t find somewhere else. BGG, anyone?..

S’been about half an hour ;)

Me and the boyfriend and the flatmate played Small World, and before that, a few 2-player games of Carcassonne.

The boyfriend kicks my ass at Small World, I kick his at Carcassonne – It works ;)

So what new games did you pick up?

  5. Andy Krouwel says:

    No, no, no.

I’ve just arm-twisted a Memoir ‘44 for Christmas, done surprisingly well at The Warlock of Firetop Mountain, and am eyeing up Rogue Trader. Now you’re going to review MORE things?

I’m going back on the crack. Cheaper in the long run.

    Good news!

(just FYI – I used same wordpress theme, as You did, and I make ‘funny’ videocast as You do, but in Polish [still worth checking out] ;) )

  7. HOORAH!

    Also, Nathan: brilliant.

This makes my day sir! Welcome back!

Good god, that picture is going to live in my nightmares.

“It’s been horrible, not having the time to play games.”

I’m just now able to make time myself after a 15 year hiatus. I didn’t realize how much I’ve missed playing until a couple of months ago I pulled out my old copies of Renegade Legion and Nuclear War games while cleaning the garage.

Here’s to a new year filled with more games!

    Yay! We missed you Rab.

Great to have you back on the case. A little time cross dressing is ok, but it’s hardly a proper job is it mate!
Nathan: You have a wonderfully dysfunctional family there… Mum sounds like my kind of negotiator.
