BoardGameGeek: The Game

If you’re into boardgames, there’s one site that should be locked down into your bookmarks (above DowntimeTown even) – and that’s BoardGameGeek.

The Geek is, in the opinion of this guy right here, the best hobby-related site on the web, bar none. No videogame website matches it. No fishing website matches it. No sadomasochism website matches it. The Geek is King.

And now we hear of the upcoming release of The BoardGameGeek Game. Being published by R&D Games, and designed by Richard Breese, the game sees you play as games publishers and gamers in a quest to attain GeekGold (the BoardGameGeek currency, don’tcha know).

It’s being released to celebrate 10 years of the Geek. Ten years! Ten years! Here’s a poem.

BoardGameGeek
For ten years you have informed
And recommended
And occasionally made me cry
As a gamer recounts the death of a wife or a child
In the form
Of a boardgame Top Ten List
There is no other like you
But your users are too hard on Monopoly and Chess
An average rating of 7 for Chess?
For fuck’s sake.
